Construction sites are widely recognised as having the potential for significant impacts on the Environment. The damage that can be caused can vary from site to site and can range from excessive noise to pollution due to dust.
We recognise that we have the responsibility for the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements and that our activities should be carried out with an understanding and awareness of environmental matters. We will plan and programme our construction works to minimise any adverse impacts on the environment to levels which are reasonably practicable to attain by implementing high standards of pollution control and care for the local environment.
Everybody who works for I.P. Jones Fencing Contractor Ltd is responsible for managing and protecting the environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
Reduce damage to the natural environment – by controlling emissions to air, water and land and by minimising adverse impacts to flora, fauna and natural ecosystems.
Reduce demand and use of natural resources – The construction industry uses vast quantities of resources, which are extracted from the natural environment. Practices, which reduce demand, such as improved materials management, less waste and increased use of recycled materials are encouraged. This will help to conserve resources and reduce environmental impacts at the source of extraction and material processing.
Reduce impact on local communities – Construction activities can have serious detrimental impacts on local communities. By positive action and the establishment of good communication links, the image of the industry can be greatly improved. Disruptive activities can be planned such that complaints and delays are avoided.
PROTECTION OF ECOLOGY, ARCHAEOLOGY FLORA/FAUNA & CULTRUAL HERITAGE
The clearance of a land area for construction could have a significant impact on local wildlife. The importance of flora and fauna may not be immediately obvious as some seemingly urban derelict sites may have ecological value.
The effect on wildlife may not be noted immediately. Example: Migratory animals or birds may return to find their previous habitat destroyed. Pollution to a watercourse, or alteration to land drainage may result in an impact several miles downstream.
Where the site is designated as having features of ‘special importance’ ie trees, plants, animals, archaeological features I.P. Jones Fencing Contractors Ltd will comply with any agreements made with the relevant authorities ie Environment Agency, English Nature, English Heritage etc to ensure that these features are protected, as far as is reasonably practicable.
SECTION 2 – ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT
I.P. Jones Fencing Contractors Ltd accepts that the basis of environmental concern is a healthy respect for others. All of us will strive to minimise any disturbances to the local and global environment and the quality of life of the local communities in which we operate.
- We will strive to continually improve our environmental performance and prevent pollution,
- We will always comply fully with all statutory and other regulations relating to our operations and environmental effects,
- We will always maintain our premises and our sites to the highest practical standard,
- We will take positive steps to conserve resources, and we will not deliberately destroy resources,
- We will continually assess the environmental effects of all our activities and any new developments and set and review objectives and targets to minimise the effect on the environment,
- We will advise our customers and our subcontractors on the best environmental methods to avoid unacceptable effects on the environment,
- We will strive to ensure that waste is disposed of with the least effect on the environment and recycled or reused where possible,
- We will always ensure that our staff have the necessary training, information, awareness, systems and authority to minimise the effects of our activities on the environment.
This means to our staff that all activities will be carried out with the best possible practice to minimise the overall effect on the environment.
